AI Ethical Use Policy

LEGAL · AI ETHICAL USE POLICY

What Genomic AI Is For. What It's Never For.

Where the AI Ethics Policy sets the principles, this policy sets the boundaries — specific, enumerated use cases that are permitted, conditional, or absolutely prohibited across NexGenomics Axiom and NexGenomics Nexus. No approval process, contract term, or claimed emergency can authorize a prohibited use.

Permitted, By Product.

Axiom — industrial operations intelligence, OT/ICS governance and audit, consequence-aware agent deployment within authorized autonomy levels, predictive maintenance, safety-system monitoring, and regulatory compliance evidence generation.

Nexus — operational data intelligence for SMB and mid-market businesses, workflow automation, knowledge management, AI-readiness assessment, and internal governance tooling.

Both — training and demonstration in non-production environments, NexGenomics's own internal research and development, and formally designated regulatory sandbox or proof-of-concept deployments.

Absolutely Prohibited.

Confirmed prohibited use results in immediate termination of the partnership and may result in legal action. No exception applies — not a contract term, not a research purpose, not a claimed emergency.

Human rights & dignity. Mass surveillance, biometric tracking of individuals in violation of reasonable privacy expectations, social scoring, genetic discrimination, non-consensual de-anonymization, and targeting of protected groups.

Safety & security. Development of weapons, munitions, or chemical/biological agents, or any use intended to cause physical harm.

Democratic integrity. Manipulating public discourse, undermining electoral systems, or generating disinformation at scale.

Data & privacy. Any use that violates the AI Privacy & Data Security Policy's consent, purpose-limitation, or closed-architecture requirements.

Somewhere in Between? There's a Process for That.

Not every use case is a clean permit or prohibition. Conditional use cases — ones that require additional review, documentation, or authorization before deployment — go through a formal review process rather than a default yes or no. If a use case isn't classified anywhere in this policy, it doesn't default to permitted; it goes through the same review.

Genomic Data and Autonomous Agents Get Extra Restrictions.

Genomic and genetic data carries use restrictions beyond the general policy, given the irreversibility of exposure and the risk to biological relatives who never consented. Autonomous Genomic Agents are restricted by autonomy level — safety-critical contexts, for example, are limited to Observe or Recommend autonomy unless a higher level has been explicitly authorized.
